OMEGA 2022 Wins Gold at the Global Carmenère Masters
Omega Carmenère 2022 from VIK in Millahue Valley, Chile, was recently recognized as one of the top Carmenère in the world at the Global Carmenère Masters. In winning a Gold medal, it was ranked as one of the best in the competition by a panel of expert judges, including Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers.
The Global Carmenère Masters took place in London on the 14th of May, as one of the 28 Global Wine Masters competitions taking place in 2024, organised by industry leading publication The Drinks Business. Among thousands of entries in 2023, only 23% won a Gold or Master medal, the top two awards, putting Omega 2022 in the company of the world’s best. According to the rigorous judging criteria, a Gold medallist must be ‘a brilliant wine that is a benchmark for its type’.
At this competition, judges sought out the very best the grape offers on the market, open to any wine and any style, with a minimum of 50% Carmenère in the blend. They tasted entries both from South America and Europe, with 14 wines winning Gold or Master medals. As expected, Chile, the country which saved Carmenère from extinction, dominated the tasting, showing excellent Carmenère on all price brackets. France and Italy also participated in the competition, and the region of Colli Berici in North-East Italy won over the judges, securing two Gold medals for its Premium Carmenère.
